Surface Modification of Mg0.8Ca Alloy via Wollastonite Micro-Arc Coatings: Significant Improvement in Corrosion Resistance

Biodegradable materials are currently attracting the attention of scientists as for implants in reconstructive medicine. At same time, ceramics based on calcium silicates promising bone recovery, because Ca2+ and Si2+ ions necessary mineralization process, they take an active part formation apatite. In presented research, protective silicate biocoatings a Mg0.8Ca alloy were formed by means micro-arc oxidation method, study their morphology, structure, phase composition, corrosion, biological properties was carried out. Elongated crystals pores uniformly distributed over surface coatings. The coated samples exhibited remarkable anti-corrosion comparison with bare magnesium corrosion current decreased 10 times, resistance increased almost 100 times. coatings did not significantly affect viability cells, even without additional dilution extract, non-toxic according to ISO 10993-5: 2009. this case, there significant difference toxicity pure samples. Thus, results demonstrated that applied reduced alloy.
